Parker Africa Mission
OVERVIEW of Parker Africa Mission
Steve and Debbie Parker are missionaries currently located in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, West Africa. where they have served for seven years. They were previously located in Bukavu, Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo), for nine years but had to evacuate due to the Rwanda genocide war on their border where thousands of refugees crossed. They originally served three years in Nairobi, Kenya, where they adjusted to Africa, learned languages (Zwahili and French), and sought the Lord’s leading as to where in Africa they would be called to serve Him.
Steve and Debbie are mainly sponsored by their home church, Living Way Christian Fellowship, in Greensboro, NC, and have additional support from several churches and fellowships in the Carolinas, plus from family and friends. Quail Hollow Presby- terian Church in Charlotte is a significant supporter. Steve and Debbie depend in faith on these voluntary supporters and have no guaranteed income.
Steve’s primary mission is planning and conducting seminars for strengthening native Pastors and church leaders who have little education, Bible foundation. nor leadership experience. He also leads and speaks at evangelistic crusades in Burkina Faso and the neighboring countries. Burkina Faso is strategically located for the center of missions, being surrounded by seven countries, and it is fairly tolerant of foreigners. There are many tribal groups and some Muslims to whom Steve feels called to introduce the Gospel message.
Steve writes, prints and distributes most of his teaching materials and has benefited greatly in the use of the Risograph printing machine that Quail Hollow Presbyterian Church helped significantly to fund. So far over 400,000 pages have been printed on it. Steve has authored and printed a small book, “Overcoming The Spirit of Poverty”, that he has translated in English, French and Arabic, which has been widely distributed in West Africa and used by other missions.
Debbie has developed her own evangelistic mission in planning and conducting schools for children, many Muslim, whose families cannot afford the cost of other schools. She teaches basic English, reading and math, and incorporates a Bible lesson each day. Many of her school supplies have been sent by or funded by women of supporting churches, QHPC being significant in that effort. Her first school in her back yard is a model for other satellite schools in the city. A portable hangar has been fabricated for ease of quickly setting up a classroom in a new location. Native women are recruited to help in the schools.
Steve and Debbie take a sabbatical of two or three months every eighteen months to two years, to visit family and supporting churches, and to recharge their batteries. They were in USA in 2004 and returned to Burkina Faso on October 13.
Steve and Debbie would pleased to hear from anyone, anytime.
