We’re Almost There
By Ken Edwards, Elder & Architect
Realizing the Promise …
with Thanksgiving!
On
Tuesday, September 2, 2008, we celebrated the opening of the
2008-2009 Preschool year with a ribbon cutting attended by the
pastors, teachers, parents, children, contractors and church
members. All attending enjoyed walking through the renovated wing
noticing how the Preschool has been transformed into a vibrant,
energetic center for childhood development. Since the opening, many,
many positive comments have been received about the transformation
that has occurred.
For the design and construction team,
it was an appropriate time to stop and reflect on what has been
accomplished. But, now it is on to the remaining parts of the
renovation. With Celebration Weekend scheduled for October 3,
4 and 5, there is much to be done to reach the finish line. Tyler
2 has, of course, shifted their focus to the administrative
wing, the Narthex, the kitchen and the new toilet/shower facilities.
They have geared things up a notch, and they are on schedule. We are
grateful for their commitment to the project and to the
church.
I have received many comments from
members about how their excitement is growing with every new feature
of the renovation that emerges. I have heard from folks who eagerly
await “Room in the Inn” so they can tell our guests for the first
time, “Yes, we do have showers!” and “Yes, we can wash your clothes
for you.” I have also heard from members who can’t wait to use our
renovated Johnston Hall that will now have windows and a more
practical configuration for receptions. The youth are excited for
their new space with the dividing partition, floating ceiling and
fun colors. And, I know many people who want to be the first to cook
on our new gas grill, bake biscuits in our new convection oven, or
turn on the exhaust hood over the cooking appliances.
Well, I don’t know who will be the
“first” with all these things, but I want to be the first to say
“Thank you” to the Quail Hollow congregation. Thank you for your
patience. Thank you for your faithful response. Thank you for your
unwavering commitment to Jesus Christ who has made possible
Renovation 2008. And finally, thank you for allowing me to be a part
of this wonderful experience.
We’re almost there! May the Lord
continue to bless us in our mission and witness on his corner of the
Kingdom!
